Stage, film and television actor and director. Ejiofor was born in Forest Gate, London to a Nigerian doctor father and a pharmacist mother. He began acting, aged 13, in school plays and the National Youth Theatre, going on to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Aged 19 he was given a part in Steven Spielberg's film Amistad (1997). Film parts in Greenwich Mean Time(1999) and It Was an Accident (2000) were followed by his acclaimed role as Okwe in Stephen Frear's Dirty Pretty Things (2002). On stage Ejiofor has starred in National Theatre productions Blue/Orange and Romeo and Juliet and in Noel Coward's play The Vortex.
