Paula Gellibrand, Marquise de Casa Maury

(1898-1986), Socialite; wife of 1st Marquess de Casa Maury

Sitter in 20 portraits
Gellibrand was a society beauty who married several times. Her first husband was the Spanish-Cuban racing driver and founder of the Curzon Cinema, the 1st Marquess de Casa Maury. She became one of Cecil Beaton's favourite models and a lifelong friend. He featured her in his Book of Beauty (1930) and recorded her appearance in words and images in The Glass of Fashion (1954). Augustus John painted a double portrait of her with her close friend Baba D'Erlanger. Enid Bagnold's 1924 novel, Serena Blandish, was based upon her life.
