Sir Peter Frederick Strawson

(1919-2006), Philosopher

Sitter in 2 portraits
Academic. Strawson was Professor of Metaphysical Philosophy at the University of Oxford (1968-87), and an Honorary Fellow from 1979. He published extensively from the 1950s onwards, and in 1998 wrote The Philosophy of P.F. Strawson; an Autobiography and a series of replies to his critics.

Sometimes we have not recorded the date of a portrait. Do you have specialist knowledge or a particular interest about any aspect of the portrait or sitter or artist that you can share with us? We would welcome any information that adds to and enhances our information and understanding about a particular portrait, sitter or artist.
