Mickey Rourke

Hollywood actor who launched his career with roles in 1941 (1979) and Heavens Gate (1980). After major roles in Body Heat (1981) and Rumble Fish (1983), Rourke emerged as a rough-edged anti-hero in films such as Year of the Dragon (1985) and 9 1/2 Weeks (1986). Received widespread acclaim across Europe, particularly France. Taken less seriously in America, where he briefly retired from acting to pursue boxing career. Returned to the screen in 1997 in Double Team.
