Peter Cropper
(1945-2015), Violinist; member of The Lindsay String QuartetSitter in 1 portrait
One of the world's foremost string Quartets, the Lindsays are rooted in the European tradition of quartet playing and celebrated for the intensity of their interpretations. In their hometown of Sheffield they inspired their own Chamber Music Festival, an annual event where they perform in the round in an informal and intimate atmosphere. Their discography includes complete cycles of Bartok, Beethoven and the string quartets of Sir Michael Tippett, who has said of the Quartet: 'The Lindsays are indeed the best friend a composer could have'.
