Alexandra Carlisle was my father's cousin. Her mother, also Alexandra (nee Curtis), was born in 1863, the 7th child of 21 children. My grandmother was called Fanny Curtis and she was the 16th child of Edmund and Sarah Curtis of Lincoln. Sarah died when Fanny was 2 years old and Edmund married again and had five more children. Alexandra's mother married Henry Swift, a schoolmaster, and moved to London where Alexandra Carlisle was born in 1886.
