Florence Smithson

(1884-1936), Actress

Sitter in 32 portraits
Florence Smithson had a voice of operatic quality, with a wide range; she could sing soft high Ds and Es that were almost unearthly in their quality. Her most famous role was Sombra in The Arcadians, in which she sang 'The Pipes of Pan' and 'Arcady Is Ever Young'.

Update.

Her recording of the Waltz Song "For tonight" from "Tom Jones" (Edward German) is available on youtube.

Be prepared to be amazed at her ending (not in the score)!

She made beautiful records of those and two of the three Waltz Song alternatives in Act lll. Those were transferred to c. d..

I'm not sure if there are other recordings available. Try YouTube
