Chief executive of the Eden Project since 1999, and Director of The Lost Gardens of Heligan since 1990. Smit studied Archaeology and Anthropology before a career as a record producer and composer (1978-90). In 1994 he co-founded the Eden Project, a scientific institution with conservatories inside a clay pit, promoting responsible management of the relationship between plant, people and resources.
