John Rawlings

(1912-1970), Photographer

Artist of 2 portraits
Photographer with more than 200 Vogue and Glamour covers to his credit and an extensive roster of commercial advertising campaigns. His career as a photographer began in 1936, when he was hired by the Vogue studios as an apprenticed assistant, working alongside many of the now-legendary figures of photographic history - among them George Hoyningen-Huene, Cecil Beaton, Horst P. Horst and Irving Penn. During a three-decade affiliation with Conde Nast, Rawlings photographed nearly every stage, screen and society star of the 1940s and 1950s, including, among many others, Marlene Dietrich, the Duchess of Windsor, Truman Capote and Salvador Dali.
