(1936-), Civil engineer; Professor of Soil Mechanics

Sitter in 1 portrait
Civil Engineer. Began career as an engineer with Ove Arup and Partners (1961-3) and later joined the Building Research Establishment. In 1980 he was appointed to the Chair of Soil Mechanics at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, where he is now Emeritus Professor and Senior Research Investigator; 'My current research is on geotechnics - the study of the engineering behaviour of the ground.'
