(William) Ian Liddell

Structural Engineer. Liddell began his career as a graduate engineer with Ove Arup and Partners (1960-2). In 1976 he became a founding partner of Buro Happold and managing partner in 1993. Liddell is visiting Professor in the Principles of Engineering Design at the University of Cambridge. His specialisation is in developing lightweight structures. His innovative design for the cable net and flat fabric roof of the Millennium Dome gained him several awards and recognition with a CBE in the January 2000 Honours list.
