Wilson Che Kei Poon

(1962-), Professor of Condensed Matter Physics

Physicist. Studied at St John's College & Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge (1984-8). Poon began his career as a Research Fellow at St Edmund's College, Cambridge and later became Lecturer in Physics at Portsmouth Polytechnic. In 1990 he moved to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh as Lecturer and later Professor. Poon is Consultant to Unilever Research and Founding Chairman of the Complex Fluids Group at the Institute of Physics. 'I study the basic physics underlying self-assembly of all kinds, from simple suspensions of ping-pong-ball-like particles through to living systems such as cells'.
