Margaret McIntosh ('Maggie') McEleny

McEleny won more medals than any other British swimmer at Atlanta in 1996. Paraplegic, she has struggled against ill-health to achieve her sporting success and was the flag bearer for the opening ceremony of the Sydney Paralympics in 2000. McEleny has won three Paralympic gold medals in total; in the 50m breaststroke at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics and the 4x50m freestyle at both the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics and the games in Athens in 2004. She also won another five silver medals and seven bronze medals at Paralympic games between 1992 and 2004.
