A partially sighted swimmer who won three medals, silver in the 400m and 50m freestyle and bronze in the 100m freestyle, at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Four years later at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics Holmes won six gold medals and one silver. He then went on to win another three gold medals and one silver in Atlanta in 1996 and a silver in the 4 x 100m medley at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Holmes is also a freelance journalist and broadcaster and was Director of Paralympic integration for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic games.
