Dame Emma Thompson

Thompson read English at Newnham College, Cambridge and began her career playing in the Cambridge Footlights with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. Her award-winning film roles include Margaret Schlegel in Howards End (1992) and Elinor Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility (1995) for which she also won an Oscar for the screenplay. To a younger generation she is recognisable as Sybill Trelawney in the Harry Potter series of films.
