This portrait brings back sweet and sad memories. I had the unfortunate pleasure of having Mr Sancha paint a posthumous portrait of my wife Rosalind Parham (aged 33). He was a very warm and genial man. The portrait is at his Kensington flat, taken at I believe the same time my wife was being painted (1994). I think the painting in the foreground is the Lady St Levan, of St Michaels Mount, Cornwall, (which hangs above a staircase at the mount). This was being undertaken, along with the Lord Mayor of London of that year. His wonderful wife served tea and cake whilst we discussed how the painting was progressing. Sadly he lost his wife only a couple of years later. As an aside, he painted his toilet as a mural, which was a reflection of what was seen from the window, so looking like a mirror. Very clever, and I hope who ever now owns the flat still has it in situ. My painting still resides with me, and I take great pleasure in owning it.
