Scientist and businessman. Gates is one of the best-known entrepreneurs of the personal computer revolution. He attended Harvard University but left without graduating. At the age of nineteen, in 1975, he founded the Microsoft Corporation with Paul Allen and five years later they licensed a computer operating system (MS-DOS) to IBM for use in the new and expanding personal computer industry. In 2000 he was estimated to be the world's most wealthy private individual. He has contributed to several charitable foundations and was given an honorary Knighthood in 2005.
