Born in Chester, Craig grew up in Liverpool moving to London when he was 16. He trained at the National Youth Theatre and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the early 1990s. He made his film debut with The Power of One in 1992. Subsequent screen successes have included roles in Elizabeth (1998), Hotel Splendide (2000), The Mother (2003) and Enduring Love (2004). His role as gangster XXXX in Layer Cake (2004) won him wide acclaim. He was nominated for a 2002 London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actor for his performance in A Number at the Royal Court Theatre Downstairs.
