Roy Miles
(1935-2012), Art dealerSitter in 13 portraits
A flamboyant and energetic Mayfair art dealer who was a former hair salon proprietor. Miles entered the art world in the late 1960s when he sold one of his salons to buy his first Old Master paintings. He had galleries in Duke Street, Berkeley Square and Bruton Street in London where he threw lavish private view parties, which were attended by many notable personalities. A great promoter of Victorian art during the 1970s, Miles helped to raise the value of Pre Raphaelite art, and did the same for the status of Socialist Realist art and Russian artists during the 1980s.
