Robert David Weston Lacey

(1944-), Author and broadcaster

Historian and biographer. Educated at Bristol Grammar School and Selwyn College, Cambridge, Lacey began his career as a journalist with the Illustrated London News and the Sunday Times before becoming a full-time writer in 1974. Lacey's biography of Queen Elizabeth II, Majesty, published in 1977, established him as an authoritative commentator on the British monarchy. His studies of Saudi Arabia,(The Kingdom, 1981) and Ford: The Men and the Machine involved periods living close to his subjects. Other books include The Year 1000: What Life Was Like at the Turn of the First Millennium (with Danny Danziger, 1999) and Royal (2002).
