(1965-), Biographer, novelist and journalist

Biographer, novelist and journalist specializing in Russian History. Montefiore read history at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge. During the 1990s he travelled through the former Soviet Union, working as a journalist for The Sunday Times, The New York Times, The New Republic and The Spectator. In 2000 his biography Prince of Princes: The Life of Potemkin was published and short-listed for the Samuel Johnson, Duff Cooper and Marsh Biography prizes. His widely acclaimed biography Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar was published in 2004.
