Without an image or image size it is difficult to determine the identy of the print, however I suspect the item you hold is a second state 'self portrait', image size 330 x 247 mm.
(Only 3 first state images were produced, one of which is in the British Museum, they are approx. 6mm longer. The plate was apparently damaged by Sir Frank Short during the printing process ) and not the 'Velvet Hat'.
The 'Velvet Hat' is of the artist's eldest son, aged about 6 years old, with image size 238 x 171 mm
This artist is becoming better known and appreciated, and the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, is in the process of uplifting a significant collection of his work (approx. 40 drawings, prints and associated documentation) at this time. They have been donated by the Artist's surviving sons (the youngest son, 'Tony Ray-Jones, the iconic photographer, died many years ago).
