Indian Theosophist. Born in Southern India, he was adopted in 1909 by Annie Besant who brought him to England and educated him. In 1925 she proclaimed him as a spiritual teacher and made him head of the Order of the Star in the East. In 1929 he dissolved the Order and declared that he did not want followers and resigned from the Theosophical Society in 1930. He travelled the world teaching and advocating a way of life and thought unconditioned by the narrowness of nationality, race and religion.
