He was the first person to introduce legislation in Parliament about the ordination of women. He made Muriel Pargeter an arch deacon when she was a deacon. He later ordained her as a priest. His catch phrase was: 'On we go, alleuia!' This is on his memorial in Rochester Cathedral. As Royal Almoner, he was responsible for moving the Maundy Service around the country - not just Westminster Abbey. In a private audience with Her Majesty the Queen, she awarded him the KCVO.
