Sitter in 1 portrait
Italian-born star. Discovered by director Leonide Moguy who cast her in two films before she made her American debut in Fred Zinnemann's Teresa (1951). Angeli dated James Dean during the making of East of Eden (1955), but their relationship was allegedly discouraged by her mother who engineered an ill-fated marriage (1954-8) to Vic Damone. Angeli had a critical success in the British film The Angry Silence (1960) starring opposite Richard Attenborough. In 1965 appeared in the war film Battle of the Bulge. Her early death at 39 was from an overdose of barbiturates.
