Born 24 September 1908. As a young man, he worked his passage to Canada as a cattleman on a freighter. In Canada he began to train for the Anglican Ministry, graduating from Bishop's University, Lennoxville, Quebec in 1937. Subsequently ordained in Edmonton, he began work in remote missions in Canada. During the Second World War, he served as a chaplain with the Canadian Army, returning to the UK towards the end of the war. In London, he joined the clergy of Southwark Cathedral. There he was involved in the establishment of the South London Industrial Mission, building up teams of chaplains serving factories and offices in South London. He became a Canon of the cathedral in 1954, and in 1963 Vicar of All Hallows Barking-by-the-Tower in the City of London. There he continued with the work of his predecessor, "Tubby" Clayton the founder of the TocH movement. He published a history of the South London Industrial Mission, "Ministry without portfolio" in 1962 and a biography of Bishop Carrington of Quebec "Philip Carrington: Pastor, prophet and poet" in 1988. He was appointed OBE in 1976 for services to the South London Industrial Mission. Cuttell died in Cheltenham on 15 August 1992.
