Mary Charlotte (née Moore), Lady Wyndham
Sitter in 14 portraits
At fifteen Mary Moore joined the chorus of The Bohemian Girl at the Gaiety Theatre. The following year she married the dramatist James Albery. From the mid-1880s, Albery, due to ill health and alcoholism, was unable to write, so Mary had to support their family. She already knew Charles Wyndham, and asked him for work. He gave her increasingly large parts, and by 1886, their stage partnership was established. Recognising that Mary had a head for business, Wyndham sealed their business partnership in 1896 and they enlarged their empire by building two theatres. Their acting partnership continued until 1913. After the death of Wyndham's wife Mary married him in 1916; he was seventy-nine.
