Bradshaw studied German at Sussex University and started his career as a newspaper and radio reporter, including working as the BBC's Berlin correspondent. First elected as an MP for Exeter in 1997, Bradshaw was Minister of State for Health Services (July 2007 to June 2009) having previously been Minister for Local Environment, Marine and Animal Welfare at Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). Bradshaw was appointed Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport in June 2009.
