Charles Rodway Clarke
(1950-), Politician; Home SecretarySitter in 4 portraits
Appointed Home Secretary in December 2004. Clarke read mathematics and economics at Kings College Cambridge. Gained experience of local government in Hackney and subsequently worked as a researcher and then Chief of Staff to Neil Kinnock (1981-92). Elected MP for Norwich South in 1997. Appointed Minister of State at the Home Office in July 1999 and Secretary of State for Education and Skills in October 2002.
