During my time as student at Bloxham, my mother was informed that the school fees were to increase. As a result she wrote to Mr. Thompson to inform him that she could not afford the increase and would therefore have to remove me from school. Mr. Thompson wrote back to tell mother that he would pay the difference until I left.

Before he became head at Bloxham he was a housemaster at Sherborne school. There are various appreciations of him connected with that school. Of interest is his connection with David Cornwell (John Le Carre) which is detailed in Adam Sisman's biography of Le Carre published by Bloomsbury.

R.S.Thompson was the headmaster of All Saints School, Bloxham from 1952-65. His wife's name was Barbara and they had two children Alistair and Bridget.They retired to Clifton upon Teme, Worcs.
