Born 1896 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, the son of Frank (a Schoolmaster) and Margaret Dawson (nee Harrison). He entered WW1 in France on 7th November 1915 originally serving as a Private and then Serjeant with the 17th Battalion King's Liverpool Regiment (KLR) and later as Lieutenant and Captain with the 4th Bn. KLR. He was awarded the 1915 Star, British War and Victory medals. On the 15th Apr. 1918 he was wounded alongside other 2nd Lt.’s W. H. Jones, E. Capstick, W. M. N. Elmes, and H. R. Anderson while serving with the 4th Bn. He married Florence Barr in 1924 and they had two children. Frank became the Assistant Director, Sea Transport Division, Ministry of Transport, and administered RMS Queen Mary and the RMS Queen Elizabeth on worldwide troopship service during WW II. He died in 1972.
