George Oscar Sylvester was my Great Grandfather's brother's son (1st cousin twice removed). His grandfather, also George, worked in the British railroad industry in its early years. George Oscar's Uncle worked with Robert Louis Stevenson and was possibly the engineer (driver) on The Rocket.
I recall as a small child visiting George Oscar's widow, Mildred, aka "Aunty Millie", at her home in Normanton.
Coming from a strong working class background (lots of coal miners in the family tree) the larger Sylvester family was proud of his political service.
There are a number of streets in the area named for him, in particular Sylvester Avenue, Normanton (it runs off Wakefield Road).
