I was a scholar at Wrekin College between 1958 to 1963 and remember Robert Dahl well. He was a great Headmaster. I experienced a beating with the cane wielded by him, quite rightly so, along with James Hill, now Sir James Hill of Bradford, for the heinous offence of dropping stones onto a train passing under a bridge. I soon learned! The second occasion I recall was as a result of my taking an opportunity to amuse my fellow colleagues during a particularly boring school play with an inappropriate comment for which I was walked around the cricket field not only once, but twice. Never had this happened before, and I was rewarded with great street cred!
