Sir (Ludovic) James Dunnett GCB, born 12 February 1914 was son of Sir James Macdonald Dunnett, Indian Civil Service. He played rugby and cricket for Oxford University and joined the UK civil service. He wa private secretary to Sir Archibald Sinclair, later 1st Viscount Thurso, Minister for Air during WWII. He rose to become Permanent Under-Secretary at Departments of Transport, Labour and Defence, in turn.
