Sir Vincent Brian Wigglesworth

(1889-1994), Entomologist and Professor of Biology

Entomologist. After studying natural sciences Wigglesworth developed an interest in insects at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Working on the School's research into insect physiology he sought to control the impact of harmful insects. In 1943 he was appointed director of the newly formed Agricultural Research Council Unit of Insect Physiology at Cambridge and served as Quick Professor of Biology from 1952 until his retirement.
