Theatre Director. Bill Gaskill joined the Royal Court Theatre in 1957. He succeeded George Devine as Artistic Director in 1965. From 1965 until 1972 Gaskill continued with the Royal Court's commitment to new writing by programming plays by Ann Jellicoe, Arnold Wesker, John Arden and Christopher Hampton. His choice of Edward Bond's highly controversial play Saved ultimately led to the abolition of stage censorship in 1968.
