John Collins(active early 19th century), Joint author of 'Chartism: A New Organisation of the People'

Collins was co-author of Chartism: a New Organization of the People, written in Warwick gaol in 1840. His fellow author, William Lovett, was a far more prominent and celebrated figure and the choice to portray Collins rather than Lovett is revealing. Lovett wrote the original six-point Charter in 1837 and can justly be called the movement's founder. However, his belief that moral force alone was enough to compel Parliament to grant the Charter was passionately opposed by O'Connor. The internal dispute between 'moral force' and 'physical force' Chartists repeatedly undermined the movement's progression.
