After numerous theatre roles in Leicester, where she grew up, and London, and several television appearances, Parminder Nagra became something of a household name in her first cinema feature, Gurinder Chadha's Bend it like Beckham (2002), for which she also won a number of awards. In 2003 she played Viola in a Channel 4 production of Twelfth Night and the following year starred with Anne Hathaway in Ella Enchanted. From 2003 to 2009, Nagra appeared as Dr. Neela Rasgotra in the US medical drama ER and in 2011 played Miss Lovely in the children's film Horrid Henry: the Movie.
