This is Charles Plowden ( b. England1805 d, Rome 1884). He established a bank in Florence and Rome in the 1830's called at different times Plowden & French, Plowden & Cholmley or Plowden & Co. The bank serviced mainly the English speaking community and visitors with a particular, but not exclusive, emphasis on the Catholic aristocracy and gentry. In Rome the bank was located in or near to the Piazza di Spagna. He had an number of children, all of whom were born in Italy and one of whom, Roger Herbert Plowden, was the father of Edwin Plowden, subsequently Lord Plowden, GBE, KCB.
