Howell Arthur Gwynne

(1865-1950), Journalist and editor

Born in Swansea, Gwynne was one of the longest-serving editors of a single newspaper. He worked briefly for The Times in 1892 before transferring to Reuters News Agency. He was editor of the Standard, 1904-11, and editor of the Morning Post , 1911-37. Active in founding the National Party, he tried to encourage a coup to replace Lloyd George in early 1918, for which he was found guilty of violating the Defence of the Realm Act.
