Most noted and famed today for their impressive documentations of Parisian architecture and their pioneering images of Mont Blanc in the French Alps in the 1850s and 1860s, the Bissons were best known among their contemporaries for a wide range of photographic styles, from reproductions of the works of Rembrandt and Durer to animal studies. The brothers had an elegant daguerreotype portrait studio in Paris's fashionable Madeleine district that attracted the attention of, among others, Napoleon III. He and the Empress Eugenie hired the brothers to accompany them and document a trip to Switzerland's Savoy Alps in 1860.
