Fashion designer. Following a City & Guilds course in fashion at Medway College, Millen set up her business with Kevin Stanford in 1981. In 1983 they opened their first store in Maidstone, Kent, and the company expanded throughout the 1990s. The brand now has stores in the UK, Europe, Russia, Asia and Australia. Since selling her business in 2004, Millen has focused on work with charities such as HOPEHIV and Teens Unite. Millen was awarded an OBE for services to the retail industry in 2008.

My mum was her seamstress when she was preparing to open her first shop in pudding lane, Maidstone in early 80's sewing her a limited range of garments to dress her shop. Cute little shop that was and for the time a unique style of clothing.

I remember buying a gorgeous LBD in Karen Millen in the 80's for approximately £50. I wish I still had it!
