Sir Philip Sidney Stott was Oldham's greatest cotton mill architect, designing his first project the Chadderton Mill in 1885 which is grade II listed, another of his mills was the Nile Mill, once the largest ring spinning mill in the world. one of his designs the Durban Mill was demolished in 2015, but many of his works still survive in Oldham and surrounding districts of Lancashire.
