Born in West Ham to a vicar - James Lunt (born 1846, Lancashire) who was vicar of Leyton at the time. He married Lillias Marjory Sherbrooke with whom he had a son - Ronald G Lunt(1913-1994). Both Geoffrey and his son were war chaplains.
