Carlo Emanuele d'Este, Marchese di Borgomanero, was related to Prince Eugene of Savoy and gave him a place to stay when the latter arrived in Vienna penniless in 1683 (see the upcoming architecture guide by The Austrian Gallery Belvedere, text written by the curator Georg Lechner). There is also a portrait of him by Van Dyck (presumably this portrait – no image on the website) at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna (https://www.khm.at/it/objektdb/detail/653/?offset=28&lv=list).
