Poet, playwright, author and broadcaster Rosen studied English at Oxford University, and his first play Backbone, was performed at the Royal Court Theatre in 1968 whilst he was still a student. His works for children include the book of poetry Mind Your Own Business (1974), and novels You Wait Till I'm Older Than You (1996) and Uncle Billy Being Silly (2001). His picture books include We're Going on a Bear Hunt (1989), illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, which won multiple awards including the Smarties Book Prize. Rosen became one of the first poets to visit schools, and was appointed fifth Children's Laureate (2007-09). He currently presents Word of Mouth on BBC Radio 4.
