Richard Dannatt, Baron Dannatt

Army officer. After distinguished service, during which he won the Military Cross in Northern Ireland at the age of twenty-two, Dannatt held various posts as Commander of the British Forces. From 2001 to 2002 he was Assistant Chief of the General Staff before taking command of NATO's Allied Rapid Reaction Corps. In 2006 Dannatt became Chief of the General Staff acquiring a reputation for exposing poor conditions in the Army. On retiring in 2009 he was appointed Constable of the Tower of London and is currently Conservative Defence Adviser.
