Josephine Charlotte ('José') Collins

Sitter in 11 portraits
Actress and singer, Collins's early stage career was in the music halls and pantomimes, including appearances in Glasgow with Harry Lauder. In 1911 she went to New York and established herself as a singer, and upon returning London in 1916, she shot to fame the following year as Teresa in the operetta The Maid of the Mountains at Daly's Theatre. With music by Harold Fraser-Simson and her step-father James W. Tate, the show ran for 1,352 performances and her song, Love Will Find A Way became a huge hit in the last years of the war.
