JOHN COOKE is my 5x great uncle.
He was the son of Dr. John Cooke (died 1744), Prebendary of Winchester Cathedral, and his wife Elizabeth Sayer.
His nephew, also John Cooke RN (1762-1805), commanded HMS Bellerophon at the Battle of Trafalgar. He was killed in action shortly before Nelson. His portrait hangs at the National Maritime Museum.
