Jamaican-born White is an internationally renowned opera singer. He made his debut in New York City Opera and is now based in London. He has appeared as a soloist at numerous BBC Proms and performs regularly at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and the English National Opera. His repertoire includes bass-baritone roles in operas by Handel, Mozart, Verdi, Shostakovich and Gershwin. He was awarded the Jamaican Order of Merit in 2000 and knighted in 2004.
